At The Gaudium School, we recognize the immense value given to reading in nurturing young minds. The library plays a very crucial part in our curriculum, allowing students to explore the world, move from the known to the unknown and find answers to their wonderings under the guidance of the teacher librarian.

The PYP library offers students opportunity for intellectual growth, curiosity, and creativity. During the library sessions, students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in an array of literary genres, discovering tales that spark their imagination and expand their horizons. The primary objective is to foster in all the students a love for reading, build their reading, self- management and research skills,  and also equip them with the skills to navigate the literary landscape.

The PYP teacher librarian plays a pivotal role in building research skills, instilling academic integrity and guiding each student to select a book of his / her choice. Recognizing that every student is unique, the teacher librarian engages in personalized discussions, understanding the student’s interests, reading level, and preferences.  This further enhances the student’s critical thinking, ability to evaluate books based on content, and themes. The students are also introduced to various literary forms, from novels to poetry as well as non-fiction, to broaden their literary palate.

The PYP library is a place meant to be beyond reading. It is the foundation of an enriching experience that nurtures empathy, creativity, and lifelong learning. Students learn that books are not just sources of information but gateways to empathy, understanding, and a deeper connection to the world around them.

This area of the school is a testament to The Gaudium School’s commitment to holistic education. By fostering a love for reading, we instill critical thinking, imagination, and a thirst for knowledge. The reading programmes offered align with our pillar of holistic development that fosters curiosity, promotes individuality, and encourages a well-rounded education. It reminds us that the journey of learning is boundless and that the treasures of literature are open to all who seek them.

We firmly believe that reading habit leads to creating a generation of lifelong learners who recognize that books are not just companions but doorways to endless possibilities.
