A student-led conference is a conference wherein the students lead parents through a journey of their learning. It’s a time when the teachers step aside and allow the students and parents to share a close educational experience together.

The academic year 2019-2020 has completed its maximum journey, and our young learners were all enthusiastic and excited to showcase what they have learnt so far. On Saturday, February 29th, 2020 the children came to school with their parents, all prepared and set to explain their learning in different areas. They warmly welcomed their family to the class and confidently led them through the various concepts covered through the unit of inquiry. They shared their knowledge as they made connections of their inquiry with the language and math concepts learnt.

Parents on the other hand, were excited to see the level of confidence in the young geckos as they explained every detail from their board displays to the various corners such as reading corner, mindfulness corner, manipulatives corner, choice corner, etc. that they engage in order to utilise their time in school fruitfully.

It was a pleasant feeling to see the youngest geckos of the Gaudium, the students of Playgroup to engage with their parents while doing the activities connected to the themes they have covered so far, pre-math concepts as well as concepts in language.

Several learning stations were set up in the classroom with learning engagements which were related to their Unit of inquiry, language and math which allowed to involve the parents as well.

The parents followed the geckos as they took them on a school tour and visited their music, dance and art room and shared their learning as well. The geckos also participated in few physical activities to give a glimpse of the skills learnt during the PE sessions.

In the end, parents shared their feedback and reflected on their experience. Overall it was an incredibly reflective experience for all involved; the teacher, the students and the parents.
