As part of their learning process, Geckos of grade 5 to 9 embarked on an educational field trip to The Salarjung Museum on 7th October. The excitement of travelling with their friends and teachers was very evident amongst the geckos, who carried their belongings and were ready with the games they wanted to play during their bus journey. Fun started with songs, followed by puzzles and country name games, screaming and shouting the winner’s names and cheering for them made the journey enjoyable and the excitement kept building as the teachers started pointing out the other heritage sites as we entered the main city.
The Salarjung Museum of Hyderabad is a repository of the artistic achievements of diverse European, Asian and Far Eastern countries of the world. Major portion of this collection was acquired by Nawab Mir Yousuf Ali Khan popularly known as Salarjung III. It’s a two floor museum divided into different blocks. Students observed various galleries present in the museum and learnt about the rich heritage carried by the Salarjung family. As a part of enquiry grade 5 geckos visited the western and European galleries to know its rich and varied heritage. During the visit , many curious questions popped in their creative minds and the answers to those were provided by the expert teachers who accompanied them. The coins gallery made students wonder about the intricate designs present on the coins.
The most interesting exhibit was The English Bracket Clock at Salarjung Museum in Hyderabad which was manufactured in England and assembled in Calcutta in the late 19th century. Students were very excited to witness a toy figure of a bearded man coming out just before three minutes and striking the bell exactly for the number of hours shown by the short hand of the clock. They waited patiently for 12 o’clock.
The special attraction was the mesmerizing The Toy Gallery, which displayed the miniature models of Airforce, Army and Navy. A beautiful display of battle scenes using the miniature toy models brought an expression of awe on their faces. Geckos were thrilled to see the railway station model and the toy trains. This left them awe struck and excited at the same time. This was a good way to end the tour and head towards an outdoor lunch arranged by the school post which they boarded the buses to return to school. Geckos left the museum with many exciting pictures captured in their minds, and many more questions to be asked to their teachers on the way back. Kids excitement and energy is infectious, after a long walk through the museum the kids still had the same energy levels as in the morning to enjoy their journey back to the school.
