Students of grades Nursery to 5 engaged in non-fire cooking during their life skills session in the month of January 2024.
In the early years students made dry bhel, grades 1 and 2 they made sprouts salad and grades 3, 4 and 5 students made papdi chaat along with their peers in the classroom. This activity helped our students to develop practical skills and provided them opportunities to explore, demonstrate collaboration and creative thinking skills.
Students worked on their fine motor skills while mixing cucumbers and tomatoes. They applied the learnt mathematical concept of measurement to mix chaat masala, tamarind and mint chutney. They mixed all the ingredients in a large bowl. The result was a delicious and perfectly balanced chaat that delighted their taste buds. Students discussed the importance of nutritious meals and how these homemade snacks are healthy options over packaged food.
Taking the learning forward students of grade 1 and 2 will be writing the steps they followed while preparing sprout bhel in their language lesson as procedure writing.
Students also tried these recipes at home and surprised their parents with their culinary skills. They celebrated their achievements as well as knowledge and experiences gained from these sessions. Our students are now equipped with a diverse skill set that will undoubtedly serve them well in their future endeavours.
