Poetry Conference

For the past few weeks the Geckos of grade four have been involved with Poetry, one of the highest forms of art according to Aristotle. Not only did they learn the technicalities and understand creativity which together make a poem, but also paid a tribute to the form in a Poetry Jam which was also part of their assessment. They started off with ‘roast and toast’ and proceeded to select a topic each, of their choice,
and wrote five types of poems- limerick, acrostic, cinquain, concrete and free-verse, on the same topic. These poems were peer assessed and suggestions were given and taken among the students. The Geckos then recited the poems written by them and they were assessed by an external examiner based on the content of the poem, the presentation, etc. They concluded their inquiry on Poetry with a running poetry session.
