A class field trip to a museum can spark intense student interest as well as nurture thinking skills. In the current pandemic situation, teachers across the world have moved towards technology to aid learning-teaching and ensuring that students don’t miss on any learning opportunity.
In connection with the current unit of inquiry, the students of Grade PP2 went on a virtual tour to the Salarjung Museum, with the objective to explore further about artefacts from different time periods and types of artifacts.
The museum trip gave a platform to capture the imagination of our young students with various different artefacts which have been part of our history. The opportunity provided a digital representation of what a visit to Salarjung museum is like, in person. The teachers could evoke curious responses with this medium as the students could easily see a range of artifacts that were on display.
Students observed artefacts at the museum and could identify the different materials they were made up of. They were also amazed to see what type of things were used by the people in the past.
This museum is also the third largest museum in India and it includes a collection of ancient manuscripts, ceramics, metallic artefacts, carpets, sculptures, textiles, paintings and clocks. Students were excited and enthusiastic while seeing the artifacts and reflected upon the same, post the tour.
Nothing replaces the actual experience of a museum tour; yet experiencing a high-quality online museum yields its own rewards.
