The Geckos of grade 1J  conducted the PYP assembly on Thursday, 24th October, 2019. Ryan Justin conducted the assembly, which started with the school prayer song- “Where the mind is without fear”. Likith shared the fact, that a lion can consume as much as much as 27kg of food at a single sitting.

Thought for the day was presented by Nithya Sri –“When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen you may learn something new- By Dr.Seuss. Rishith presented the definition of the ‘open minded’, an attribute of the IB Learner Profile. He shared that open mindedness helps us to learn and grow. It strengthening your belief in oneself.

This was followed by the presentation of our national symbols.

NATION FLAG

Riaan Trivedi talked about our national flag. He said that – “Our flag has three colors. The top saffron colour indicates strength and courage of the country. The white middle band indicates peace and truth with dharma chakra. The green symbolizes fertility and growth.”

STATE EMBLEM

Lalitha shared that the state emblem is an adaptation from the Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka.

NATIONAL ANTHEM

Tanish stated that the national anthem of India ‘Jana Gana Mana’ was composed originally in Bengali by Rabindranath Tagore and was adopted in its Hindi version as the National Anthem of India on 24th January 1950. It was first sung on 27th December 1911 at the Kolkata session of the Indian national congress.

NATIONAL SONG

Trishania shared that the song ‘Vande mataram’ was composed in Sanskrit by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and was a source of inspiration to the people in their struggle for freedom.

NATIONAL BIRD

Syah presented the Indian peacock as the National bird of India.

NATIONAL FLOWER

Sadhwika and Nathan shared that Lotus is the national flower of India. It is a scared flower and occupies a unique position in the art and mythology of ancient India and has been an auspicious symbol of Indian culture since time immemorial.

NATIONAL ANIMAL

Tanvi described the magnificent tiger, with thick yellow coat of fur with dark stripes as our national animal. The combination of grace, strength and enormous power has earned the tiger its pride of place as the National animal of India.

Principal PYP, Ms. Anjalika shared information about and motivated students to be a part of Sportopia. She further said that champions start working and practicing from a very young age and their hard work makes them who they are. The students were asked to be mindful and practice mindfulness regularly- especially while taking care of the library books which we take home and must return on time. We further shared that we are all doing DEAR time in our classes to enhance our reading skills.

We ended our assembly with birthday celebrations and national Anthem!
