Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) is celebrated every year on 31st October to pay tribute to the Iron Man of India Vallabhbhai Patel, who was instrumental in keeping India united, on his birthday.
National Unity Day celebrates the birthday of Patel because, during his term as Home Minister of India, he is credited for the integration of over 550 independent princely states into India from 1947-49 by Independence Act (1947). He is known as the “Bismarck of India”.
This year we celebrated the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Patel. The celebrations for the day began in The Gaudium with the Principal, Mr Prabhakar Reddy, addressing the assembly where he shared his thoughts on the importance of unity in a country as diversified as India. He reminded us that we need to stay united as a country which brings us prosperity, happiness and growth. He shone light on the contribution of Sardar Vallabhai Patel towards united India.
Next the students and faculty alike took the Unity Pledge solemnly promising to uphold the unity, integrity and security of the nation.
After that the geckos also participated in the 2 Kilometre long run titled “Run For Unity” to mark the day, as, on this day, the Statue of Unity is unveiled on the banks of Narmada to honour the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his tireless efforts of uniting India.
It is indeed a fitting celebration and was observed in our school with solemnity and serenity.
